A QUAMBATOOK resident took to the town's community Facebook page last week curious about what she had discovered wedged in a tree branch.

Allison O'Hagan captured what appeared to be an insect cocoon resembling a hessian sack.

It was found near a paddock where her horses are kept on the Swan Hill-Quambatook Road.

The majority of respondents believed it was a spitfire grub nest.
