CFA District 20 is sending a strike team of 22 people to assist in firefighting efforts at Tuggeranong Valley, south of Canberra.

The strike team departs Echuca today.

District 20 commander Michael Masters explained how it will slot into a larger contingent.

"It will form part of an overall support force that includes a further seven strike teams," he said.
