Work ongoing to restore power

BOORT and Pyramid Hill were without power after severe storms swept through the Mallee on Sunday night causing widespread disruption across the region.

Many areas of the network remain damaged as of Monday afternoon.

Strong winds and lightning strikes brought down trees onto powerlines, with Boort and Pyramid Hill particularly hard hit by power outages.

Ongoing storm activity and heatwave conditions are delaying network restoration, with Powercor estimating the affected areas in the Gannawarra Shire to have had power restored between 12 pm - 11pm Monday.

This comes as tens of thousands were left without power across Victoria.

Powercor encourages all residents without power to check on the Powercor website for updates and urged the rest of community to prepare for further outages, as hot and stormy conditions are expected to continue.

Do not approach any fallen powerlines, assume they are live and report them to Powercor immediately on 13 24 12.
