Kurl’s comment

Don’t think Kurl missed the mark on the call about where this Australian cricket team sits across the generations, as mentioned in November 14 edition.

The removal of Justin Langer as coach, and then most recently having Pat Cummins actually start figuring out how to captain (he was poor), has certainly raised their status to approaching previous groups. This is indicated by winning the World Test and World ODI Championships, however, not winning the Ashes outright after being 2-0 up was more than a little disappointing, and should be judged accordingly.

And Glenn Maxwell got them over the line again. In some hot form.

A Melbourne Age article stated that Cummins declared form would play a critical role in deciding who plays in Australia’s Test team in the next series. Couple this with previously declared ACB statements that white ball form doesn’t automatically guarantee selection for the Test team.

Checking David Warner’s last three years of Test stats: 45 innings, one not out, one century – 200 in Melbourne, average 28.5 (The same as he achieved during the Ashes), which is not up to required standards.

There is a solid line of form that suggests he definitely should not be picked! It will be disappointing if they give him his swan song.

Meanwhile, Cameron Bancroft languishes after topping the Shield tables last year and currently averaging 63 this year.

Any suggestion form, and particularly Shield form is indicative of Test selection will be dead if Warner gets selected ahead of Bancroft for the first Test against Pakistan.

There’s a few blokes driving grain trucks, as it’s that time of year. Hopefully they don’t have to wait in line too long at the silos because that’s time wasted. Then they just annoy folks by ringing them.

No, not all grain truck drivers do that, it’s only Colin bloomin’ Granter.

Good on you Col, and safe driving for all truckers.

Barham Koondrook A Grade were cruising at 3/106 chasing 136 on November 18 against Murrabit. Then the wheels fell off.

Still needing 32, they lost five wickets for 11 runs leaving 21 runs for the win. Reminiscent of the grand final last season.

Captain Jayden Hall and Charles Adams got them over the line with four overs remaining. Phfft – did it easy.

Former KPS principal Brenton Taylor attended Furphy’s 150th celebration in Shepparton on the weekend of November 25 and 26 and took his horse and Furphy cart as a display to add to the occasion.

For the weekend, Furphy cast 15 new ends 1873-2023 in aluminium. Some were auctioned and some were given to special displays. A people’s choice for best display was awarded, which Mr Taylor was lucky enough to win. So he is now the very proud owner of a newly cast, limited edition Furphy end.

Could be worth a bit Mr Taylor.

Are you in the 2024 Gannawarra Times calendar? You’d better check. Available at Gannawarra Times office or participating stores.

Someone had better let Brad Pay (Mr September) down gently as he isn’t in this issue.

One day last week it was noticed that Dorse (Trevor Dawson) had to find another seat as a lovely couple had snaffled his regular spot down at the Sporties.

It’s all okay Dorse. Pretty sure they wouldn’t stay there all day.

Noticed that they have knocked the end off the table that was sticking out in Victoria Street. It has been shortened to the same as the others.

Good thing, as a few folks had bumped into it.
