MICHELLE Noonan has returned to Lake Charm Primary School after a year of relief teaching.
Returning home to the school of close to 20 students has Miss Noonan most excited, as she builds relationships with her four grade one and two students.
“I did placement during teaching college at rural schools and I soon realised that I wanted to work in rural schools.
“The community feel and commitment from families is second to none.”
Miss Noonan has taught in schools across the Mallee, including Nullawil, Piangil, Pyramid Hill and Sea Lake, during 35 years of teaching.
“When my father removed my two sisters, as well as me, from a school near Winton, it was devastating for the school because there were such few students,” she said.
“The quality of one-on-one time is important for literacy and numeracy, and this new position has allowed me to do such.
“At larger schools you find different students can be called upon to step up, take on leadership roles, do thank-you addresses and speeches, but in small schools usually the same students need to take this on; it’s a credit to them.
“This will enable them to adapt to the responsibilities and opportunities that present at secondary school.”
