A TIMBER shed was destroyed in a ferocious fire at a Kerang East property on Tuesday night.
More than 30 firefighters were called to the Tragowel North Road property just before 8pm to find the structure well alight.
Seven appliances from Appin, Kerang, Macorna and Sandhill Lake attend the blaze, which took more than an hour to bring under control.
Kerang Fire Brigade captain, Ramon Steel said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
“There was a burn-off nearby on the property, but the cause of the fire is still unknown,” he said.
“The property owner was very happy with firefighting efforts as grain, car parts and general farming equipment were saved inside adjoining sheds.”
Captain Steel said it served as a reminder to ensure planned burns are attended at all times.
“Our preference is always that burns off are registered with the CFA,” he said.
“Before you carry out and notify your planned burn, make sure you check and follow local regulations or laws set down by CFA or your local council.”
Registering a planned burn can be done by contacting the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority on 1800 668 511.
CFA also recommends that you inform your neighbours.
