Gas infrastructure for town

A MAJOR step in connecting Kerang to Victoria’s natural gas network occurred this week.

Work crews at the town’s Tate Drive gas storage facility put the final touches to infrastructure needed to house the gas, which will be delivered by truck to the area.

The site includes four storage tanks and a fuelling station. Works to construct the facility are on track to be completed by the end of June, with attention to turn to installing pipes throughout the town that will connect houses and businesses to the stored gas.

“Later this month construction will begin on installing the main gas pipe into the town,” project manager, Todd Henderson said.

Meanwhile, efforts to determine the town’s network of reticulated pipes are continuing.

With project management still receiving expressions of interest from residents and businesses wanting to connect to natural gas, the final version of the gas network will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

“The bulk of the proposed network will not change, but some additional streets will be added due to more people being interested in the project,” Mr Henderson said.

The gas pipeline network is expected to be completed by the end of March 2017.
