COHUNA was awash with colour at the weekend as more than 100 women stitched the township on the map.
Many in attendance used the annual Country Quilters Weekend as an opportunity to escape the daily grind and enjoy the simple pleasure of knitting, sewing and stitching with a cup of tea at the start of Winter.
Others brought along half completed projects to work on during the weekend, with the help of renowned tutors at various workshops around town.
It was the first event since the Cohuna Cubby House Quilters won the 2016 Gannawarra Shire Council Community Group of the Year award.
Proceeds from the event are dispersed between local community groups and charities, including the Alternative Schoolies trip to Cambodia, to assist with purchasing uniforms for Cambodian children.
Former Kerang tutor and high school teacher, Gloria Loughman returned as a tutor this year.
Ms Loughman is a world-renowned quilt artist who has received key awards for her work in several countries. She also curates and judges major quilt exhibitions.
“I lived in Kerang for 23 years and left about eight years ago, so it is lovely to come back and catch up with old friends and instruct on something we all love to do,” she said.
Now living in Drysdale on the Bellarine Peninsula, Ms Loughman said she enjoys the views over the bay when she returns home from overseas trips as a quilting teacher.
“I love the fact it is relaxed, there is supreme country hospitality and that all facets of the community are involved. It is a pleasure to return.”
