Time to roll

WEEKS of practice will come to fruition this week as the first of the district’s summer sports competitions begins.

Northern District Bowls Division’s midweek pennant competition opens at venues throughout the area tomorrow, with Saturday pennant action beginning this weekend.

Reigning Division One premiers, Barham Services will start their season at home tomorrow in a showdown with local rivals, Barham Sports, with 2015/16 grand finalists, Kerang travelling to Cohuna.

The other match of the opening round in top-flight competition will see the division’s two golf club-based sides – Cohuna Golf and Kerang Golf – go head-to-head at Kerang.

Six teams will also take to the greens in Division Two action, with reigning premiers, Leitchville travelling to Pyramid Hill.

Last season’s grand finalists, Kerang will travel to Cohuna and Barham’s two sides – Services and Sports – playing on the banks of the Murray River.

A new-look Saturday pennant Division One competition begins this weekend, with each club represented by one side.

Two-time reigning premiers, Kerang will host Pyramid Hill, with last season’s grand finalists, Leitchville to host Gunbower.

In other round one games, Wakool will host Kerang Golf, Cohuna takes on Barham Sports and Barham Services will play Cohuna Golf.

Reigning Division Two premiers, Barham Services has two teams entered this year, with the Blue side having the bye and the Gold team travelling on Saturday to play Cohuna Golf White in a grand final rematch.

Cohuna Golf’s Navy side will host Cohuna, with Leitchville playing Kerang and Kerang Golf travelling to take on Barham Sports.

Division Three action will see reigning premiers, Barham Services take on Cohuna Golf, Kerang Golf travel to Wakool, Kerang Blue host Gunbower, Cohuna play Barham Sports and Kerang White battle Pyramid Hill.
