CMFNL – Kangas shock Demons

THE Cohuna Kangas produced one of the upset results of the Central Murray Football Netball League season at the weekend.

The Kangas go into the Easter break undefeated following a 13-point defeat of last season’s grand finalists, Nyah-Nyah West United.

In what was the club’s first win at the Nyah Recreation Reserve since 2012, Brett Collins (four goals) helped the visitors take advantage of the Demon’s inaccuracy in front of goal.

The Demons kicked 10 goals from 29 scoring shots, with the Kangas booting 14 majors from its 20 shots at goal.

The Kangas claimed the lead in the second term and held onto the advantage for the remainder of the game.

Up at Balranald, Kerang moved to top spot thanks to a 117-point win against the ‘Roos.

Six goals to Travis Matheson and Brandon Hayes helped the Blues move to the top of the ladder, with Joshua Nitschke and Bronson Booth starring for the victors.

The loss was Balranald’s 20th in a row, with the Blues adding to its recent strong record against the competition’s northernmost side.

Meanwhile, four goals from Dean Limbach was not enough to stop Koondrook/Barham from going down to Tyntynder by 53 points.

In what was touted to be the match of the round, a seven-goal to three the Bulldogs’ way set the tone for the game.

Although the Raiders reduced the deficit to nine points at the main break, the border side could only manage three goals in the second half as the hosts recorded nine majors in the final hour of play.
