Past on show

MOTOR vehicle enthusiasts from across northern Victoria will converge on Alexandra Park later this month to raise funds for a new multi-purpose building.

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event, organisers of the Kerang Show and Shine are hoping to attract a larger crowd.

Events will be held at the Kerang venue on Sunday, April 23 from 10am, with patrons able to explore all vehicles on display on the day.

“It was a highlight last year to see so many cars all done up, especially with the number that travelled a long way to make the day possible,” the event’s committee of management chairman, John Poole said.

This year’s event will have a specific focus on Ford, with fans of the blue oval to see numerous models produced by the iconic brand.

The Greenwood family, who have multi-generational links with the company through its Ford dealership, will display a number of its collection, with children’s events and food vendors also on-site throughout the day.

All proceeds from the day will go towards the construction of a multi-purpose recreation pavilion, to be built at the home of Kerang’s racecourse and showgrounds.

It is estimated the new building, which will include a kitchen, will cost $1 million to build and furnish.

“As our membership numbers increase, we are running out of room to hold meetings, and the proposed building would be ideal,” Kerang and District Vintage Motor Club president, Colin Day said.

Those attending with classic and vintage vehicles are welcome to enter a number of categories to be judged on the day, with all entries to be on-site by 9.30am.

Gates will open at 9am, with the day running through to 3pm.
