More steps in cancer fight

THE ongoing campaign to finance the fight against cancer and support loved ones impacted by the insidious disease took many steps forward on Sunday.

It continued the dedicated efforts of Kerang’s Happy Hour team and the generosity of district residents.

The ninth annual Red Lily Walkathon participants circumnavigated the main oval at Riverside Park and some ventured further afield to span the Loddon River levee track.

The walkathon honours the memory of Charlie and Cheryl Beale’s daughter, Nerida, who died in 2006 at the age of 30.

Red was Nerida’s favourite colour and lilies were her favourite flower.

All funds raised on Sunday will add to the Happy Hour team’s Relay for Life efforts.

The Kerang team has been prominent with leading fund-raising efforts for much of the past decade at the Echuca event.

Local businesses, families and individuals have an ongoing commitment to supporting efforts for cancer research, treatment and welfare.

Mr and Mrs Beale’s grandson, Max, cut a red ribbon to start the walk and many participants either released or held red balloons.
