WHAT a year. We’ve had pennant games postponed or cancelled through Covid and floods, now extreme heat has wiped out yet another round. Here’s hoping for play this weekend.
Still bowls has continued where possible on the home front, with a great turnout of ladies appreciating the early start on Tuesday. Winners on the day was the side of Rhonda, Noelene and Kath, all enjoying the triples format.
Midweek pennant the following day also had an early start, and with both sides at home, it was nice to see the green near-full. Division One had a sound win against Pyramid Hill with all rinks up, while the twos nearly pulled off the upset of the year. They played ladder leaders and flag favourites Kerang Golf, and led for much of the day, only to be outscored over the last couple of ends.
Wednesday night bowls continues to attract new bowlers, with our new doctor Gilda joining the ranks. Winners again were the formidable trio of Ken Hocking, Maddy Black and Noelene Brown, all having good seasons.
Nice to see that the talents of Maddison and sister Ebony have been recognised, with an invitation to play in a junior tournament later this week at Daylesford. Good luck girls.
A swag of club games were played last week in the heat, which pleased the hard-pressed match committee no end. Keep up the good work and knock another couple of rounds over in whatever events you have entered. A reminder that the pairs are now only 15 ends. Thanks to the social club for the great hamburgers on Friday.
Our Thursday jackpot pairs resumes this week, names into Peter well beforehand to help set up the day. Remember it is open to all, casual dress of course.
Thanks to Bruce and his helpers B Green was groomed and spruced up in readiness for impending finals play, while A Green has had its first cut since the renovation and is also looking good.We have an evening tournament this coming Monday at 7pm, a good time to play bowls in the heat. Triples is the game, with entries to Peter or Mick. Advance notice for the main ladies’ tournament,
