Across the Greens – Kerang Golf

SEMI-FINAL time in Northern District Bowls with Kerang Golf teams in Division 1, Division 3 and Midweek finals.

It wasn’t a good weekend results-wise, with Division 1 bowing out to Barham and Division 3 having a bad day against the strong Barham 4 team.

Division 1 travelled to Cohuna Golf to tackle Barham in the first semi-final and Frank Ritchie’s rink was the only shining light with a 21/14 win against Glen Faull. Both Howard McClelland and Lloyd Murray were overpowered by Jason Lunghusen and Brody Harper.

Division 3 were at Cohuna in the second semi-final against Barham 4. After a bad start, nothing seemed to go right and the Barham 4 team were too strong on the day.

This group will have to reset for the preliminary final at Barham next Saturday against Kerang 4, who won the first semi-final against Wakool. There will be a practice at Barham on Friday at 1pm for all Division 3 bowlers.

Good luck to our Midweek team who are contesting the second semi-final at Barham tomorrow.

The team is Judy McKerrow, Joyce Tuohey, Rosie Laughlin and Lorraine Douglass. Team 2 is Lorraine Ritchie, Sonia McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Allison Medson.

Cars will leave at 8.15am. It would be great if members could go and support the team.

Last Wednesday, this team had a close tussle against Leitchville, prevailing by four shots overall with Judy McKerrow playing a tied game and Lorraine Ritchie winning by four shots.

The first rounds of Champion of Champions were played at Kerang on Sunday.

Our champions Frank Ritchie and Carol Pay were pitted against the Pyramid Hill champions and Carol won 26/6 against Jean Mann and Frank was defeated 25/22, by Lionel Mann in a game where Lionel led for the first 20 ends, before Frank made a late comeback, only to go down to some excellent draw bowling in the last few ends. Carol went on to play Rhonda Ballard from Cohuna and lost this game.

Also on Sunday, Allison Medson, who won the Murray Mallee Novice Singles a few weeks ago, travelled to Mulgrave to play against other winners from the other Bowls Victoria regions.

She won her first game 21/17 against Sussan Singleton from Wangaratta, but lost her next game against Kathy Walker from Hampton Bowls Club. A great effort, Allison, to reach the last eight in this statewide competition.

Our fourth night of Ian “Squizzy” Taylor Barefoot Bowls was completed last Wednesday.

Hayes Real Estate came away as winners again with 30 points and will be enjoying the Choice Cut Butchers products this week. Well done to Graeme Hayes, Brett and Travis Hipworth and Dave Wood.

Runners-Up were the Royal Hotel team with 26 points. Encouragement chocolates to The Lions this week.

The ladder has Royal Hotel on top with 98 points, followed by Hayes Real Estate with 97, Lake Charm Boat Club on 96 and Crackerjacks on 87. An interesting last four weeks with the top of the ladder being very congested.

Thursday bowls had 13 participants with a Pairs Match and a 100 Up game also being played. The winners were Frank Ritchie, Jeff Anderson and John Duckworth. Encouragement chocolates to Rob Malseed, Rosie Laughlin and Bob McBain.

This Thursday is our re-scheduled Terry White Triples day. Entries are still being taken, so call Aldo (0407 310 762) if you wish to play.
