KERANG GOLF
ANOTHER home game for our Division 1 team in the Northern Valley competition, with the strong Cohuna Golf as our opponents.
Unfortunately, there was not a lot of joy against the reigning premiers, with all rinks being defeated after a very slow start.
A mini-revival just before the break drew the scores a little closer, but the Cohuna Golf team were too steady and edged further in front as the game progressed.
Frank Ritchie lost to ‘Bluey’ Fletcher by eight shots, Ritchie Murray down by 12 and Dallas Mathers down by 14.
Division 2 headed to Barham to take on Barham 4 at the magnificent complex beside the river.
After the completion of the roof over the second green, this complex is now second to none in Australia and we are lucky that we have this facility in our playing area.
It seemed to suit our Division 2 team as they came away with a win on all rinks and a 68/39 scoreline.
Laurie Gray’s team was up by 12, with Graeme Hayes by 11 and Greg Beck by six, after being behind at the break.
Division 3 went to Wakool and went close to toppling the home side.
The Noel Robertson rink of Rob ‘Curly’ Curtis, Trevor Linton and Stuart Robinson won by 21 shots and led the way.
This was enough to win back-to-back Royal Hotel vouchers, after being the recipients last week as well.
Jeff Anderson was back from his Northern Beaches holiday and only lost by four shots in his first game since last season, while Gary Borg’s team had a tough day, going down overall by four shots.
After a week of uncertainty, midweek pennant commenced their season, again, after all games played the previous week were null and voided and the points shared (I think).
Kerang Golf now have a team in both divisions and in their first game in the top division, last year’s premier team were the opponents, so it was a tough initiation.
After a gallant effort, the result favoured Cohuna on two rinks, while the other was a tied result.
Well done to all who made themselves available to play in this higher standard and well done on your performance.
Lloyd Murray’s rink was the drawn game, with Lorraine Ritchie down by seven, and Jim McLeish, after getting away to a bad start, played strongly through the middle stages to finish 14 shots adrift at the completion.
Division 2 also played at home against Leitchville and with a strong finish won on both rinks. Marlene Rawson’s team won 22/14 and Dave Randell’s quartet had a 21/16 win – well done.
The first night of twilight triples was played last Wednesday evening and it was great to see two new teams participating – thanks to Rotary and Betta Electrical for putting in teams.
The winners were the Gray Wilson team, with Andrew and Mitchell Wilson teaming up with Stuart Robinson to win the Choice Cut Butchers vouchers for this week, with the chocolates to Rotary.

KERANG
BLACK duck social triples were held last Tuesday, with 24 players taking part.
The winners of the day were K.Teasdale, P.Waters and G.Charles with two tight wins and plus six the overall margin.
The winners of the second game largest margin were W.Neville, R.McBain and C.Pay, with a nice performance netting them plus 12.
The $150 jackpot was drawn and was claimed by L.Hein, Y.Summers and M.Rawson and will now revert back to $60.
The first round of the ladies singles championships were held in what were very blustery and wet conditions, well done to the ladies who won through to the next round and also a big thank you to Som Pascoe who provided a delicious meal at lunchtime for those present.
Speaking of championships, the notorious pairing of Trevor Pocock and Kevin Teasdale took out the State Pairs at Pyramid Hill and are now through to the regional level, where they will hope to add to their nice little collection of pairs championships together.
Keep an eye out for Kerang Golf’s Claire Spinks Day on Thursday.
Melbourne Cup day is always met with bowls at Kerang, with many of our members dressing up in the spirit of the day.
There will be sweeps held on the day, so if you have spare time on Tuesday, November 5 please come along and bring a plate of finger food to share.
Kerang’s Division 1 side welcomed Gunbower and came away victors by 28 shots on Saturday, three rinks up.
Team Pay got the chocolates with a 16-shot win over L’Hullier, while teams Brown and Hein welcomed the judges also with seven and five shot wins correspondingly.
Kerang’s Division 2 team had a tight tussle with Cohuna 2 and came away with silver.
It was a mixed-grill type of day with one win, one draw and one loss, the margin being nine shots down, team Coobs the winning side and team Adams having the draw.
Kerang’s Division 3 travelled to Leitchville and enjoyed their hospitality and conditions. and they had the nerve to take the points as well.
Two tight matches for team Marshall (+6) and team Maddox (-3) and a comprehensive win for team Rosewall allowed them to walk away with a telling 25-shot win.
Can you imagine the grin on Marshall Rosewall’s face for those 30 minutes home?
The Northern Valley team travelled to Racecourse for their round 2 fixture, coming away with a nine-shot win.
Team Bowles had another day out winning by 11 shots and team Hancock skipped out to be reined a bit to win by seven shots, while team Wilson went down by nine shots.
The win puts them in second spot ahead of our match against Murray Downs at home this week, also having the responsibility of being the duty team.
Weekend Pennant teams will be sent out about 6pm on Wednesday nights.

COHUNA GOLF
SOCIAL bowlers on Tuesday enjoyed triples games, all closely contested, with the best performed on the day being Yvonne, Mary and Margot.
A few drops of rain curtailed activities a little early, which must have been a precursor to Thursday’s wonderful downpour.
Out again next day for Midweek Pennant, top results were for the seconds, but not so for Division 1, where Kerang gave all three rinks a bit of a touch-up.
At Cohuna, both rinks won by 11, with identical scorelines as well.
Kimmy’s vouchers were awarded to Cheryle’s rink after much jiggling of scores and ends, keep up the good work.
Our popular Wednesday night series kicked off in fine style with a great turnout, featuring quite a few new faces.
Pick-up games were played, with teams to be drawn up for this week.
Inaugural winners were George Payne, Glen and Neil Simmonds, who all bob up regularly during the season.
There’s still room for more starters, please contact Di Woolhouse to be included.
After a ton of hard work by Jean and Mick, our annual versatility fours event went well on Thursday, with all enjoying the varied format.
A Lake Boga side, headed by Danny Kelly, won outright with 15 points (all five wins) from Gary McCaig’s Murray Downs quartet, on 13 points (4 1/2).
Ian Howard’s Cohuna rink came third as the best of the four game winners.
Catering was spot on as usual, with bouquets to our unheralded caterer Irene and helpers.
Thanks also to our valued sponsors from the Moama Bowls Club and AG Adams, who made the terrific prizemoney possible.
Pennant venues on Saturday made light of the big rains to present their greens in good condition, with the Golf teams again registering strong performances across all divisions, as everyone won except the firsts, who were passed on the wire.
Northern Valley players met Kerang Golf and were in control for the majority of the day, winning well on all three rinks by 14, 12 and nine shots.
Racecourse will be at home next week, a new experience.
Division 1 joined a big turnout at Barham as their complex hosted matches on both greens for the first time.
After we led overall all day, our valiant players saw Barham snatch the win on the very last end of the game.
Pat Quinn’s rink took the honours and also the Bower vouchers after a very steady performance.
Division 2 were the only side at home against Pyramid and as all rinks took the points, the day couldn’t have been more successful.
Greg Mathers and team were a real standout in the 12-shot overall victory, with the others winning by two and three.
The thirds went across to Pyramid with manager Tucker doing a mandrake impersonation to fill the three rinks.
Not only did those chosen, and conscripted, play well, with two wins and a draw, it rated as very successful.
The best start yet for our Gunny Golfers, let’s hope it can continue.
Thanks to those members who have assisted with the working bees to groom both greens, they should stand us in good stead until the Christmas break renovations.
Draws are posted for all club events, no time like the present to play a few games.
