The lakes that make up the Kerang lakes system are environmentally significant and internationally recognised under the Ramsar Convention.

The largest and most populated of the lakes, in terms of visitors and tourism are Lake Charm, Kangaroo Lake, Lake Meran and Middle Reedy Lake.

Lake Charm is a large freshwater lake that is part of the Murray Irrigation storage system.

It is a popular location for water sports including swimming, waterskiing, bird watching, fishing, and kayaking.

Lake Charm regularly hosts the Victorian Ski Racing titles as well as Victorian point score events. Competitors come from all over Australia to compete in the events.

The Victorian Outboard Club holds the Archer Eade Memorial race event in March.

The relaxed setting of Lake Charm is the ideal destination for a family getaway or day trip.

The eastern shore of the lake is a haven for birdlife and fishing is very popular, with redfin, yellow belly and Murray cod regular catches.

In spring, the Redfin Fishing Classic is an attraction for hundreds of anglers.

Pelican Lakes Tourist Park is a great spot to enjoy Lake Charm.

Located right on the lake banks, it’s the perfect spot for all water sports, including fishing, boating and water skiing.

Kangaroo Lake is the former home of the 19th Australian Prime Minister Sir John Gorton, who was born in 1911. The lake is well-known for fishing and water sports with the caravan park right on the lake foreshore.

The north end of the lake is popular for day visitors with all types of recreation.

The west side of the lake is also used for watersports, fishing and swimming while many residences are located high on the lunette overlooking the lake.

Brown Brothers has its largest vineyard located at Kangaroo Lake and Lake Charm while local winemakers the Dent family, are producing some fine wines under the label Countertop Wines.

Jetski races return to Kangaroo Lake across the autumn months, including the National Championships.

Lake Meran is a picturesque freshwater lake on the northern end of Leaghur Forest.

The lake has white, sandy beaches and is surrounded by healthy red gums. It truly is a beautiful spot to camp, swim, fish or simply relax with a picnic in natural surrounds.

Middle Reedy Lake is home to the Ibis Rookery where thousands of ibis breed annually.

The wetlands are home to many species of waterbirds including ibis, coots, sea eagles, herons, kites and spoonbills.
