Crowds flock to poultry auction

POULTRY breeders and enthusiasts from across the State and beyond converged on Cohuna on Sunday for the biannual poultry auction.

Veteran auctioneer Ian Howard commented that the auction – held at the recreation reserve – was one of the largest in memory.

More than 700 lots were auctioned by Mr Howard and fellow auctioneer Wayne Orr, with hundreds of people jostling to get a piece of the action.

The quality of lots was excellent, attracting aggressive bidding and strong prices.

There were 135 registered buyers and 109 sellers in attendance, many travelling several hours and spending the weekend in Cohuna.

It was all hands on deck for the Cohuna Scouts, who ran a barbecue as a major fundraiser.

The next poultry auction will be held in September.
